A few weeks ago I picked up 3 of the Yongnuo YN-600 LED lights for a series of interviews I am working on. I purchased the lights because they have a variable white balance, came with a remote control and they could be controlled by bluetooth. If you are in the market for a low cost video light that has variable white balance, this is the light for you! Check out the full review below!
First off I want to start off with how awesome it is to have the ability to dial in 600 LED’s to the specific white balance you need! No matter the location or the quality of light, you can now be prepared for any situation. There are a few different ways that you can change the settings on the light.
The first and easiest is by using the buttons on the back of the panel. There is a power button that also doubles as the intensity control. There is a selector switch that allows you to control the 5500K and 3200K temperature bulbs. There is also an LCD on the back that will give you a visual representation of what settings the device is set to.
Second is the remote control that comes with the unit. The remote is easy to use and the buttons are a decent size.
Third is the built in Bluetooth that is super easy to setup. Simply download the app from the appstore, turn on Bluetooth and you are ready to go. No pairing required!
There are a few other LED panels that Yongnuo has on the market such as the YN-300 which is half of the power. Lets talk about how much power this panel has, At ISO 100 and 1/125 of a second you get:
- f11 @ 1 feet
- f5.6 @ 2 feet
- f2 @ 10 feet
I love the portability of this light. You have 2 ways to power the device, the first is via battery. The YN-600 like many other lights on the market use the Sony NP-F550 style of battery. You can get these batteries pretty cheap on Amazon. The other option is the 8 Volt 5 Amp DC jack.
*Note in the model that I purchased it did not come with either the batteries or the AC Adapter.
Overall I was very happy with these lights. I have used Younguo flashes and lights for several years and I am extremely happy with them. The quality is what you would expect for the price point. I would recommend this light to anyone looking to have lots of power, the ability to control white balance and on a budget.
